Why is the key for my deadbolt or door knob “sticking”?2022-11-28T17:21:31+00:00

There can be many causes for this problem. The most common is due to the pins inside the lock cylinder not being flat. Therefore it is “harder” for the key to be in the “right position”. The solution can be, changing the lock or re-keying the lock again.

What is the difference between “Re-Keying” a lock and changing a lock?2022-11-28T17:21:09+00:00

By Re-keying this means that we change only the combination of the pins inside the lock. By doing so, you keep your old lock, and the old key would not work anymore. It is also possible to re-key two locks on the same door.

What is a Master Key?2022-11-28T17:20:44+00:00

A Master Key is created when a group of locks are custom coded so each lock uses a different key. The difference is that a combination is added so one key will open all locks. In a group of locks that are Master-keyed (MK) each lock is operable by both its own individual key and the Master Key. Each individual key operates its own lock only. The Master Key operates all the locks in the group. Other systems are also possible using sub-Masters, Grand-Masters, etc., therefore, maximizing flexibility to best suit your needs. Master key systems can incorporate different locks for unique applications including padlocks.

My keys have been stolen, do I have to install new locks?2022-11-28T17:19:40+00:00

Replacing the entire lock is not necessary! Your lock can be re-keyed by changing the tumbler of the lock cylinder to a different size. This will save you the expense of replacing the entire lock. Rekeying is an effective solution if you are a landlord and have different tenants moving in and out of your apartments or offices. Automobiles can also be re keyed.

Do “bump keys” really work?2022-11-28T17:19:18+00:00

Absolutely! It is a lot faster to smash a window or drill the lock than spend 20 minutes bumping the lock – maybe. Your best defense is a secure keyway such as the new Schlage series Primus or Medeco.

Do I really need to rekey/change my locks when I move into a new home or business?2022-11-28T17:18:52+00:00

Yes, it is imperative that you take the security of yourself, your family, co-workers, and your possessions seriously. If someone has a key you and your possessions are at risk. Did you know the previous occupants? Do you know what kind of person or business they were? The answer is almost always no! Be safe, protect yourself!! Rekeying is very inexpensive, and can be scheduled 24/7.

How should a person go about choosing a locksmith?2022-11-28T17:18:05+00:00

There are a lot of things that should go into your decision for choosing the right locksmith. After all there are a lot of questionable companies out there. First, you should check to see if they are licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Second, never call a number that starts with 1-800. These companies are not local. They dispatch from another state, giving the work to a subcontractor whom is probably not licensed themselves. Often these companies know very little about the contractor and are only interested in getting your money than being done with you. Where as a local company thrives on the reputation it makes for itself, and is a lot likely to give you or your business a fair price with a high standard for performance.
